Would any one be familiar with a “tenth avatar” predicted, when Vishnu – the 2nd of the Divine Triad is to come as a man on a white horse overthrowing his enemies and rooting out all evil from the earth? In which of the Hindu Sacred books could one find it?

Wed, June 7, 2006 - 8:49 PMYou want to find a conline version of the Vishnu purana?
www.sacred-texts.com/hin/vp/index.htm
Specificly go here www.sacred-texts.com/hin/vp/vp117.htm and scroll down to where it's marked p. 483 the paragraph starts at the end of that (Chapter four verse 24).
Also there is a minor purana totaly dedicated to Kalki, the Kalki Purana. Here's a site with lots of quotes from it and one from the Vishnu Purana ww-iii.tripod.com/hindu.htm

Thu, June 8, 2006 - 6:17 PMThe center of the galaxy (a black hole) is called Vishnu's Navel? Interesting! No - I'm not that familiar with Hinduism at all, but interested. Hindu and Parsi - Avestan and Sanskrit share some similarities from their common heritage.
The online version of the Vishnu purana is wonderful, thanks for the link and guidance where to look!

Re: Vishnu
Tue, June 20, 2006 - 3:28 AMThat would be found in the Srimad Bhagavatam also called the Bhagavata Purana 12 canto starting with chapter 1
www.srimadbhagavatam.com/12/1/en
also here is a verse from the 1 canto
Śrīmad Bhāgavatam 1.3.25
athāsau yuga-sandhyāyāḿ
dasyu-prāyeṣu rājasu
janitā viṣṇu-yaśaso
nāmnā kalkir jagat-patiḥ
SYNONYMS
atha — thereafter; asau — the same Lord; yuga-sandhyāyām — at the conjunction of the yugas; dasyu — plunderers; prāyeṣu — almost all; rājasu — the governing personalities; janitā — will take His birth; viṣṇu — named Viṣṇu; yaśasaḥ — surnamed Yaśā; nāmnā — in the name of; kalkiḥ — the incarnation of the Lord; jagat-patiḥ — the Lord of the creation.
TRANSLATION
Thereafter, at the conjunction of two yugas, the Lord of the creation will take His birth as the Kalki incarnation and become the son of Viṣṇu Yaśā. At this time the rulers of the earth will have degenerated into plunderers.
PURPORT
Here is another foretelling of the advent of Lord Kalki, the incarnation of Godhead. He is to appear at the conjunction of the two yugas, namely at the end of Kali-yuga and the beginning of Satya-yuga. The cycle of the four yugas, namely Satya, Tretā, Dvāpara and Kali, rotates like the calendar months. The present Kali-yuga lasts 432,000 years, out of which we have passed only 5,000 years after the Battle of Kurukṣetra and the end of the regime of King Parīkṣit. So there are 427,000 years balance yet to be finished. Therefore at the end of this period, the incarnation of Kalki will take place, as foretold in the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. The name of His father, Viṣṇu Yaśā, a learned brāhmaṇa, and the village Śambhala are also mentioned. As above mentioned, all these foretellings will prove to be factual in chronological order. That is the authority of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam.

TRANSLATION
By the time the age of Kali ends, the bodies of all creatures will be greatly reduced in size, and the religious principles of followers of varṇāśrama will be ruined. The path of the Vedas will be completely forgotten in human society, and so-called religion will be mostly atheistic. The kings will mostly be thieves, the occupations of men will be stealing, lying and needless violence, and all the social classes will be reduced to the lowest level of śūdras. Cows will be like goats, spiritual hermitages will be no different from mundane houses, and family ties will extend no further than the immediate bonds of marriage. Most plants and herbs will be tiny, and all trees will appear like dwarf śamī trees. Clouds will be full of lightning, homes will be devoid of piety, and all human beings will have become like asses. At that time, the Supreme Personality of Godhead will appear on the earth. Acting with the power of pure spiritual goodness, He will rescue eternal religion.
PURPORT
Significantly, these verses point out that most so-called religions in this age will be atheistic (pāsaṇḍa-pracure dharme). In confirmation of the Bhāgavatam's prediction, the United States Supreme Court has recently ruled that to be considered a religion a system of belief need not recognize a supreme being. Also, many atheistic, voidistic belief systems, often imported from the Orient, have attracted the attention of modern atheistic scientists, who expound on the similarities between Eastern and Western voidism in fashionable, esoteric books.
These verses vividly describe many unsavory symptoms of the age of Kali. Ultimately, at the end of this age, Lord Kṛṣṇa will descend as Kalki and remove the thoroughly demonic persons from the face of the earth.

Re: Vishnu
Tue, June 20, 2006 - 3:41 AM
SB 12.2.1: Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: Then, O King, religion, truthfulness, cleanliness, tolerance, mercy, duration of life, physical strength and memory will all diminish day by day because of the powerful influence of the age of Kali.
SB 12.2.2: In Kali-yuga, wealth alone will be considered the sign of a man's good birth, proper behavior and fine qualities. And law and justice will be applied only on the basis of one's power.
SB 12.2.3: Men and women will live together merely because of superficial attraction, and success in business will depend on deceit. Womanliness and manliness will be judged according to one's expertise in sex, and a man will be known as a brāhmaṇa just by his wearing a thread.
SB 12.2.4: A person's spiritual position will be ascertained merely according to external symbols, and on that same basis people will change from one spiritual order to the next. A person's propriety will be seriously questioned if he does not earn a good living. And one who is very clever at juggling words will be considered a learned scholar.
SB 12.2.5: A person will be judged unholy if he does not have money, and hypocrisy will be accepted as virtue. Marriage will be arranged simply by verbal agreement, and a person will think he is fit to appear in public if he has merely taken a bath.
SB 12.2.6: A sacred place will be taken to consist of no more than a reservoir of water located at a distance, and beauty will be thought to depend on one's hairstyle. Filling the belly will become the goal of life, and one who is audacious will be accepted as truthful. He who can maintain a family will be regarded as an expert man, and the principles of religion will be observed only for the sake of reputation.
SB 12.2.7: As the earth thus becomes crowded with a corrupt population, whoever among any of the social classes shows himself to be the strongest will gain political power.
SB 12.2.8: Losing their wives and properties to such avaricious and merciless rulers, who will behave no better than ordinary thieves, the citizens will flee to the mountains and forests.
SB 12.2.9: Harassed by famine and excessive taxes, people will resort to eating leaves, roots, flesh, wild honey, fruits, flowers and seeds. Struck by drought, they will become completely ruined.
SB 12.2.10: The citizens will suffer greatly from cold, wind, heat, rain and snow. They will be further tormented by quarrels, hunger, thirst, disease and severe anxiety.
SB 12.2.11: The maximum duration of life for human beings in Kali-yuga will become fifty years.
SB 12.2.12-16: By the time the age of Kali ends, the bodies of all creatures will be greatly reduced in size, and the religious principles of followers of varṇāśrama will be ruined.
SB 12.2.17: Lord Viṣṇu — the Supreme Personality of Godhead, the spiritual master of all moving and nonmoving living beings, and the Supreme Soul of all — takes birth to protect the principles of religion and to relieve His saintly devotees from the reactions of material work.
SB 12.2.18: Lord Kalki will appear in the home of the most eminent brāhmaṇa of Śambhala village, the great soul Viṣṇuyaśā.
SB 12.2.19-20: Lord Kalki, the Lord of the universe, will mount His swift horse Devadatta and, sword in hand, travel over the earth exhibiting His eight mystic opulences and eight special qualities of Godhead. Displaying His unequaled effulgence and riding with great speed, He will kill by the millions those thieves who have dared dress as kings.
SB 12.2.21: After all the impostor kings have been killed, the residents of the cities and towns will feel the breezes carrying the most sacred fragrance of the sandalwood paste and other decorations of Lord Vāsudeva, and their minds will thereby become transcendentally pure.
SB 12.2.22: When Lord Vāsudeva, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, appears in their hearts in His transcendental form of goodness, the remaining citizens will abundantly repopulate the earth.
SB 12.2.23: When the Supreme Lord has appeared on earth as Kalki, the maintainer of religion, Satya-yuga will begin, and human society will bring forth progeny in the mode of goodness.
SB 12.2.24: When the moon, the sun and Bṛhaspatī are together in the constellation Karkaṭa, and all three enter simultaneously into the lunar mansion Puṣyā — at that exact moment the age of Satya, or Kṛta, will begin.

It's called protecting the Dharma from frauds, cheats and child molesting cults. For the Dharma protects those who protect the Dharma.
And copy and pasting a hundred secondary and unauthoratative texts plus a couple of authorataive ones that may vaugely be constrewed to support you, is a poor propaganda tactic.

Re: Vishnu
Thu, June 22, 2006 - 8:04 PMThe only claim I've made here is that only a small group of people accept Caitanya as an incarnation of God. How can I quote Shastra to support that? Why would I need to? Do you deny that only Gaudiyas accept this?

Those feet destroy the embarrassing conditions of material life and freely award the greatest desire of the soul, the attainment of pure love of Godhead. My dear Lord, Your lotus feet are the shelter of all holy places and of all saintly authorities in the line of devotional service and are honored by powerful demigods like Lord Siva and Lord Brahma. My Lord, You are so kind that You willingly protect all those who simply bow down to You with respect, and thus You mercifully relieve all the distress of Your servants. In conclusion, my Lord, Your lotus feet are actually the suitable boat for crossing over the ocean of birth and death, and therefore even Lord Brahma and Lord Siva seek shelter at Your lotus feet. To show mercy to the people and give them devotional service, the Supreme Personality of Godhead will appear in a brahmana's home in Navadvipa by the Ganges' shore. The Supreme Person, Sri Krsna Himself, who is the life of Srimati Radharani, and is the Lord of the universe in creation, maintenance, and annihilation, appears as Gaura, O Mahesvari.
In Kali-yuga, I will descend to the earth with My associates. In Navadvipa, which is surrounded by the Ganges, I will take birth in Sacidevi's womb.
They who are bewildered by My illusory potency will not understand the great secret of the appearance in this world of Me in My personal form, in My form as the incarnation of devotion, in My form as the incarnation of a devotee, in My form bearing the name of a devotee, in My form as a devotee, and in My form as the giver of devotional service.
This secret is not to be revealed to them. Only the saintly, pure, renounced devotees, diligently engaged in My devotional service, will be able to understand Me in these five forms.
My dear male and female associates, headed by Sridama and Subala, who came to this world at the time of My advent as Lord Krsna, will come again during the Kali-yuga.
The gopas will become the sixty-four mahantas and the twelve gopalas. To establish the truth of religion, I will enjoy many pastimes with them.
In this way I will again reveal the path of devotional service, which has been destroyed in the course of time. My sons should also descend to the earth, assume the forms of devotees, and, by My order, also work to re-establish the principles of true religion.
At this time My names will be: Krsna Caitanya, Gauranga, Gauracandra, Sacisuta, Mahaprabhu, Gaura and Gaurahari. Chanting these names will bring devotion to Me.

Other direct references are found in the Visvasara tantra, Kularnava tantra, Brahma-rahasya, and Visnu-yamala. Besides these there are complete chapters about Sri Caitanya's incarnation in the Vayu Purana and Bhavisya Purana, which are too long to quote here. Also there is a text by the name Caitanya Upanisad within the Atharva Veda, which explains the Lord's incarnation in Kali-yuga. I have not cited it here, as it was rediscovered in recent times, so some people will reject its authenticity, or at least its value as evidence.
Sri Caitanya's incarnation was a hidden incarnation, thus He buried references to His appearance deep within the ocean of Vedic texts. His desire was that His disguise would not be betrayed, so He made sure these references would remain hidden until after His incarnation was complete. These texts were always present, but by the inconceivable yoga-maya of the Lord, He covered His true identity even from the Vedic scholars and panditas. Only the pure devotees understood His actual identity.

Wed, June 21, 2006 - 9:34 AMAlso, there is a version in the Mahabharata 3.188 which is older than the Puranas
You can read it here in book one section 188 www.sacred-texts.com/hin/m03/m03188.htm, the relevent parts continue for two more pages after that one.

Wed, June 21, 2006 - 8:43 PMNityananda, do you know the western equivalent of these celestial happenings?
"SB 12.2.24: When the moon, the sun and Bṛhaspatī are together in the constellation Karkaṭa, and all three enter simultaneously into the lunar mansion Puṣyā — at that exact moment the age of Satya, or Kṛta, will begin." -

Re: Vishnu
Fri, June 23, 2006 - 5:17 PMIt's been 3,893,000 years since the begining of the first Yuga according to the traditional calculations. So Cynthias concerns still remain since science puts homo sapiens age at between 200,000 and 150,00 years. -
-
Re: Vishnu
Fri, June 23, 2006 - 5:38 PMYou correct there Austin
Kali last a total of 432,000 years. Each yuga is successively shorter than the previous, Kali belong the shortest, only lasting 432,000 years Total of the 4 yugas are 4.32 million years and that is called a divya yuga
(Satya Yuga is 1.728 million years
Treta Yuga is 1.296 million years
Dvarpara Yuga is 864,000 years
Kali Yuga is 432,000 years)
= Divya Yuga is 4.32 million years
71 Divya Yugas (306.72 million years)=1 Manvantara(period of Manu)
14 Manvantaras + 15 Sandhyas (4.32 Billion years(night is same lenght)= 1 Kalpa (Day of Brahma)
36,000 Kalpas (Days of Brahma) and an equal number of nights = 311.04 Trillion years (Lifespan of Brahma and this universe)
Vedic Cyclical Time = endless
Yes the Vedic concept of Yugas and human creation does not correspond to modern archeologist. That is why I referenced Michael Cremo's site Forbidden Archaeology, there is growing group of archeologist who have presented evidence that humans have existed much longer than we are taught to beileve. If fact NBC made a nice show in regards to that called NBC's Mysterious Origins of Man some info here www.mcremo.com/mysterious.htm -

Sat, June 24, 2006 - 7:46 PMThat's so *Fantastic!*
Like Krishna's city, supposed to rise at the end of Kaliyuga--- does building an underwater museum out to it so everybody can see it count as Rising? ?
It's just that things, in the U.S. anyway, are so corrupt that good people are losing hope and faith and so much of the definitions for the ugliness of Kali Yuga sound like *now* that it seems impossible to imagine, for me anyway, that it's going to get worse for 432,000 more years . . .

And I cannot wait til SB 12.2.21: "After all the impostor kings have been killed, the residents of the cities and towns will feel the breezes carrying the most sacred fragrance of the sandalwood paste and other decorations of Lord Vāsudeva, and their minds will thereby become transcendentally pure.

Re: Vishnu
Sun, June 25, 2006 - 2:04 PMI am thinking just about but still not yet. This would be at a worldwide scale. I imagine something like Mad Max and the Thunderdome. This first 10,000 of Kali however is understood to be a mini Golden age due to the decent of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, it is also fortold that the holy names of the Lord will be chanted in every town and village and that would hold the influence of Kali yuga for 10000 years. After that the chanting will be almost lost and there will be practically no spiritual activity by anyone.
